D.C.C.A. Donside Crossing Communities Alliance
It has taken thousands of years to create and can never be replaced!
WHAT HAS BEEN PROSPOSED
Option 1 run from Danestone through Grandholm and onto St Machar Drive via Gordons Mills Road and Tillydrone Avenue;
Option 2 run from the junction of Whitestripes Avenue and the A90 towards the north side of the river, then would turn east, parallel to Balgownie Drive and Grandholm Drive and then south, along the now east side of the River before crossing at the former Donside Industrial site to join Tillydrone Road, leading onto St Machar Drive;
Option 3 run from the Eastern junction of the A90 and the A956, running along Parkway East and turning south between AECC and Golf Course to connect with existing access road. The route would cross the Don mouth on a new viaduct to join the esplanade.

In March/April 2004, a Scottish Transport Appraisal Guidance (STAG) report, assessed the above options for a 3rd Crossing and other potential objectives as a result of a 3rd Crossing. The council took the preferred option and a planning application was submitted in January 2006.
At a Public Enquiry the Scottish Government Reporter recommended that the proposal not be included in the Local Plan based upon 14 different grounds. Although the Council have now integrated the concept of the proposal into the Local Transport Strategy and the Structure Plan, none of the real issues that will affect the residential areas along the route have been addressed including, severance, noise and air pollution, health deterioration, reduced quality of life, reduced value of regeneration, pedestrian safety and adverse affects to wildlife and the Don Valley.
