The Don Crossing Communities Alliance is a consortium of community groups that are opposed to proposals for a 3rd Don Crossing that would pass through Danestone, Grandholm and Tillydrone. The consortium includes: The Tillydrone Community Council; Old Aberdeen Community Council; George Street Community Council; Rosemunt & Mile-End Community Council; The Aberdeen University Student Council; the Grandholm Village Residents Association; Riverbank Parent Council, with potentially other groups joining in due course. Collectively the consortium represents well over 25,000 residents.
As a group we do firmly agree there are traffic congestion problems in and around the city of Aberdeen, however we are not convinced that what is being Proposed by Aberdeen City Council will have any positive effect on reducing traffic congestion. Most people with the Citya nd Shire are agreed that all that will happen is that the proposed bridge will only serve to move traffic congestion further into Aberdeen City. As an alternative proposal, we in the DCCA have been busy pressing the argument that there is a need for Aberdeen City Council Officials to lobby Central Government and have something done that will address the problems at the Haudagain Roundabout. A long standing argument by many residents on both sides of the City is that the construction of a flyover, and a dualling of Persley Bridge, and Parkway, would help speed traffic around the city and relieve congestion
We urge Aberdeen City Council to seriously commits further to the modal shift from cars to public transport, improving the public transport service, and ensuring that this operates at a reliable, affordable and a quality service, which will encourage people to leave their cars at home and take the bus, train, bicycle or walking.
